The second and the last week of Marko’s program at “Enjoy Russian” has started. This weekend Marko spent with his hostfamily at the dacha. It is a great experience, because dacha is not just a word for Russians, it is a big part of the Russian culture.

Next Monday we will meet our new guest Marek, who will spend in Petrozavodsk 4 weeks, taking One-on-One Russian course.
The staff of “Enjoy Russian” is preparing for the summer season 2012. Tree weeks left until it begins. We are expecting more that 100 students to come here in June-September.
We have good news for people from almost all European Union: Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, France, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Austria, Finland, Sweden, Hungary, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Bulgaria, and Romania. For these counties we have right to prepare the invitation letters from our Organization (not from the migration-visa-office). That means we safe more than a month! So if there is anybody from these countries go ahead and apply for July course! We will have enough time to get Russian visa. People from other countries can apply for August or September course anyway :)

Our student – Marko, who has already visited Petrozavodsk and Enjoy Russian School, came to Petrozavodsk for the second time. It is really important for us to satisfy guest’s needs and see the good results – a lot of people come back to Our School for many years.
This week is full of events and of course the most important one – it is the day of Great Patriotic war which Russians celebrate on the 9th of May. We want to say thankful words to Those who defended their families and the whole nation. Spasibo Vam ogromnoe!

If you want to understand what was this war for Russian people you can watch different movies which will help you to find out the reality of the war. Movies about Great Patriotic war are: Bastards (2006) The Brest Fortress (2010) – new ones. Also there are gorgeous movies made in USSR: “The Dawns Here Are Quiet”, “Only Old Men Are Going to Battle”, “Seventeen Moments of Spring”.

More than 30 students will visit Our School in June. They have a great chance to get to know Russian culture, people and way of life, to improve their Russian and spend good time here. If you still doubt about your summertime – you can come and take Russian language courses in August.

We are looking forward to receive your
application forms. Don’t forget that you should apply at least 2,5 months before a program starts. See you soon in Petrozavodsk!

Despite it is still quite cold in Petrozavodsk the spring is in the air and that’s great! This week our Organization prepares the benefit event “Language Marathon”.  Four languages will be presented there: English, German, Spanish, and Turkish. Mustafa (our Turkish guest) will present his language to local people. All money we get this evening will be sent to a little Russian girl Arina Tubis, who is now in Israel. You can see her story here http://vk.com/club24229083. If you want to can help her as well!

Yesterday was the Presidential elections in Russia. There are 5 officially registered candidates – 4 representatives of registered parties and one independent. Vladimir Putin won over 64% of the votes, and it was unsurprisingly. The president is elected for the new, extended term of 6 years.

Yesterday all Russians celebrated Maslenica (Масленица). It’s a very pleasant holiday, because we said Good-by to Winter and welcomed Spring! There are 2 main traditions: in each family people eat blini, which symbolize sun; on streets people burn dummies of Winter.

Today is the first day of the Lent, which lasts 40 days as soon as Jesus has spent in the desert 40 long days, which were very hard. People can eat break and vegetables; meat, fish and milk products are not allowed. Moreover people visit churches very often during this period.

We invite you to explore Russia: language, culture, traditions here in Petrozavodsk! If you want to come in MAY you still have a chance, just apply for the program as soon as possible.

In the summer you can study individually, in a small group or in a big one! Choose the most suitable program for you! Keep in mind, that “Enjoy Russian” offers SCHOLARSHIPS covering a 4-week Russian course.

Every year a great number of foreign students come to Petrozavodsk and stay here for a couple of weeks. They don’t only go sightseeing and learn Russian but also live the lives of common citizens which means they have to count their expenses on meals, public transport or taxi, and leisure. So if you’re planning to come to Petrozavodsk this article should be very helpful for you. Keep in mind that all prices are given in rubles (1 euro = 40 rubles). First of all you might be interested in how much you’ll have to spend on food/nutrition. You can either choose to cook all the food yourself or to have your daily meals at a café. The first option is much cheaper but it takes a lot of time and effort especially if you have a busy schedule. You need as much as 200-350 rubles a day.

Bread costs about 30 rubles, milk also about 30 rubles, the average cheese price is 150-250 rubles for a kilo, sausages cost from 80 rubles and more. In summer and late spring vegetables are not very expensive. For example tomatoes are 50-70 rubles, potatoes 20-25 rubles for a kilo. The price on sugar is about 30-40 rubles for a kilo and tea is about 50 rubles and more depending on the sort. Meat is rather expensive and chicken is the cheapest kind of meat.

On the other hand you may prefer to dine out and in this case the cost depends on a place. Here are the cheapest places where you can have some great meal at the price of 150-200 rubles for lunch and dinner each: canteen at “Enjoy Russian” language school, café “Hermes” (Krasnaya st., 31), canteen “Petropit” (Lenina av., 19), canteen Pitservice 13 (Gulling st., 13), and café “Petrozavodsk” (Pravda st., 6). But if you prefer eating something special like sushi or pizza, and love good service you’ll be welcome in “la Parisienne” (lots od addresses around the city), café “Smile” (Pervomajskij av., 4b), “Belissimo” (Antikajnena st., 20), “Akvarel” (Karl Marks av., 12). However be ready to pay significantly more from about 300 rubles to 500 rubles and more.

Talking about transport expenses you should keep in mind that there are three types of transport. The first one is trolleybus which costs 12 rubles. The second one is “marshrutka” or a bus which costs 15 rubles. And in case of emergency you can call a taxi or grab a cab on the street which will cost you from 80 to 150 rubles depending on where you want to go. To get a taxi you can call the following numbers 777777, 222222, 560606, or 075.

And you surely want to relax and have some good time. You can go to the cinema or a club, bar, billiard or bowling and many more. One visit to a cinema costs from 200 to 300 rubles. To enter a club you have to pay from 250 to 300 rubles and God knows how much you will spend inside. Playing billiard usually costs from 150 to 200 rubles an hour so the bigger the company the cheaper the game!

We hope this article will help you organize your finances! Enjoy your stay in Petrozavodsk!
